Chives
Chives are cultivated for their slender green leaves, which are used as a culinary herb and offer a milder flavour compared to other members of the Allium family. They are incorporated into a wide range of dishes, including traditional recipes in France, Sweden, and several other European cuisines. In Sweden, chives are a key ingredient in gräddfil sauce, typically served with the classic herring dish enjoyed during midsummer celebrations. The plant’s purple blossoms are also edible and are often used as a colourful garnish. In Poland, chives are commonly paired with quark cheese, adding a fresh, aromatic note. Chives are considered one of the essential fines herbes.
