Strawberry

Fragaria ananassa — better known as the strawberry or garden strawberry — is a cultivated hybrid grown around the world for its distinctive fruit. Although commonly called a berry, the strawberry is technically an aggregate accessory fruit. Its bright red color, fragrant aroma, juicy flesh, and natural sweetness make it widely popular, whether eaten fresh or used in foods like jams, juices, pies, ice creams, milkshakes, and chocolates. Artificial strawberry flavoring is also common in many processed products. The modern garden strawberry originated in the 1750s in Brittany, France, through a cross between Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis, a species brought from Chile to Europe by Amedée‑François Frézier in 1714.
